$52M available now in safety, security grants for PA schools

More than $52 million is available in school safety and security grants through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

More than $52 million is now available in school safety and security grants through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.


Schools districts, intermediate units, area vocational-technical schools, charter schools and private residential rehabilitative institutions in Pennsylvania are eligible to apply.


Eligible entities should apply online at PCCD.PA.gov by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018.

The grants, approved as part of the Fiscal Year 2018-19 state budget, can be used for any of 22 specific school safety initiatives including:


  • Hiring of school security officers

  • Purchasing security-related technology

  • Completing safety and security assessments

  • Implementing violence prevention curricula

  • Offering counseling services for students

  • Other programs and services to protect student


School districts are eligible for at least $25,000 but no more than 10 percent of the total $52.5 million in funds.


The grant money will be distributed by March 2019.
