LATROBE, Pa. – Security is of utmost importance in the airline industry and it’s no different at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Arnold Palmer Regional Airport is located in Latrobe, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Last year, Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. (DES) upgraded the airport’s security cameras, the first upgrade to the system in 12 years.

DES designed and installed the solution, made possible with products from GenetecAxis CommunicationsSamsung and Alcatel-Lucent, among others, and was chosen out of seven prospective integrators.

“After comparing apples to apples with all the vendors, pricewise and ease of use and the system setup itself, we decided to go with DES,” said Moe Haas, public safety director and fire chief for the Westmoreland County Airport Authority, which operates the airport that offers commercial service through Spirit Airlines to destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The state-of-the-art system doubles the airport’s capabilities throughout the airfield. Tracking lost luggage is now easier, as is monitoring vehicles as they travel about the airport.

The backend of the system is easily laid out in two secure areas.

Cameras are mounted both in and out of the terminal and strategically placed around the airfield.

Working with DES was a perfect fit for Arnold Palmer.

“The personnel, from the installers to the management, really helped us in engineering and putting together this system,” Haas said. “It works well for us at the airfield.”

He concluded “Security is very important in our industry itself. We want to make sure the public has a very safe and enjoyable journey on our flights out of Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.”
