By August 13, Vendors with Government Contracts Divest from Hikvision, Dahua
DES has never partnered with either Hikvison or Dahua. Now, DES vendors holding government contracts will be divesting their supply chains, too.

Building on a 2018 federal bill banning the direct government use of Dahua and Hikvision security cameras, a new interim Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) issued by the Department of Defense (DOD), General Services Administration (GSA), and NASA states that all integrators who want to continue doing business with the federal government must eliminate all Hikvision and Dahua products from their supply chains by Aug. 13, 2020.
In compliance of the upcoming ban, all DES partners who hold government contracts are divesting their ties with these partially Chinese-government-owned companies. One of our security partners, Genetec, has directly confirmed their compliance with us.
As reported in 2017 by Security-industry trade publication IPVM, Hikvision and Dahua have backdoor vulnerabilities that could be exploited. The widespread ban is in part a cybersecurity move and in part a blacklist of Chinese state-owned companies over its alleged human rights violations.
As shared here, back in 2018, DES has never partnered with either Hikvison or Dahua. These surveillance cameras were generally geared to the small-to-medium markets because of their affordability. DES has a wide toolbox of vendors, including Samsung, Axis and Hanwha, with competitively priced products for these midsize markets.
