DES: Providing secure solutions to Pennsylvania's growing MMJ industry

Pennsylvania's medical marijuana industry has become one of DES' fastest growing verticals. We offer security and access control solutions, network cabling, wireless infrastructure, multimedia, voice and more!
Jan 16, 2019

PITTSBURGH — When medical marijuana company Cresco Yeltrah became the first in Pennsylvania to receive approval to begin growing medical marijuana in October 2017, their security and surveillance system installed by Dagostino Electronic Services was touted as a big reason why.

DES foreman Mike Earhart looks at a drawing of Cresco Yeltrah’s medical marijuana dispensary in New Kensington on Jan. 14, 2019. The facility is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019.

Strict state regulations were met with ease thanks to knowledgeable DES engineers with a thorough understanding of the requirements for visitor access and electronic surveillance.

Since then, the Pennsylvania medical marijuana industry has grown almost as fast as the product at Cresco Yeltrah’s facility.

In December 2018, 13 additional permits were granted to companies to open and operate grower-processing facilities as part of Phase II of the state’s MMJ program. Cresco Yeltrah was among the 12 initial permits issued in June 2017.

Also, in December as part of Phase II, 23 additional dispensary permits were awarded. Twenty-seven permits were issued in the initial round. Companies can open up to three dispensaries per permit.

Many of these companies have turned to DES to design and install their security and access control systems.

In addition to Cresco Yeltrah, who also has dispensaries in Butler and Pittsburgh with a third location under construction in New Kensington, DES works with Cresco Labs, Cresco Yeltrah’s parent company, FarmaceuticalRXHolistic FarmsThe Healing Center and Maitri Medicinals.

DES is currently installing the security, access control and other solutions at Calypso’s grow and processing facility currently under construction in Erie, Maitri Medicinals’s dispensary in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood and Cresco Yeltrah’s dispensary in New Kensington, among others.
